PROFESSOR OF PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE OF DANCE (open rank)

 
Barnard Dance

The Department of Dance of Barnard College, Columbia University in New York City, invites applications for a full-time, renewable but non-tenurable three-year appointment as an Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Professional Practice to begin July 1, 2019. The ideal candidate will possess a distinguished national/international profile as a performing artist (performer, re-stager, choreographer). Candidates must be able to teach (1) studio courses in composition, performance, repertory, and/or production; (2) several levels of ballet, modern, and/or contemporary technique; and (3) one or more classes in critical dance studies. Additional responsibilities include advising and mentoring students and service to the department and college. Ideal candidates will possess an M.F.A. and/or Ph.D. in dance or related field at time of appointment, as well as an excellent record of teaching dance in a liberal arts context.

Applicants will need to submit following materials:
1. a cover letter of no more than three pages that explains your fit for the position and integrates statements of artistic practice and teaching philosophy 
2. a works sample page with durable URLs to two relevant video examples of creative work (a performance, a choreographic work, a re-staging, a class, etc.) with brief rationales for your selection of clips (two or three sentences each)
3. a curriculum vitae (no more than three pages)
4. a sample syllabus of a course you have taught or would propose teaching 
5. three letters of reference, submitted by application deadline. (Application portal will request letters from references upon final submission of your application, so be sure to submit your application in advance of the application deadline)
