Front Desk Associate - Mark Morris Dance Group

SUMMARY:

The Mark Morris Dance Group is seeking a Front Desk Associate to join its existing 7-member team. In the coming year, the Mark Morris Dance Center will be providing greater access to all of its programs with the addition of 3 new studios at the Dance Center. A strong Front Desk team will be essential in the roll out of this expansion. MMDG’s Front Desk Associates are vital front-line representatives whose primary responsibility is to serve as the first point of contact for all incoming calls and visitors. A successful candidate will be personable, patient, friendly, responsive and focused on providing a high standard of customer service to all MMDG constituents. MMDG is looking for someone who is a team player and complements the hard-working, adaptable, and supportive environment at the Dance Center.

 

This is a part-time, 20 hours minimum per week position reporting to the Front Desk Manager. Candidates must be able to commit to a regular schedule of a minimum of four 5-hour shifts per week. An exact schedule will be determined upon hire. Saturday availability and a willingness to flex one’s schedule depending on event-specific staffing needs at the Dance Center is required.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

-Answer general in-person questions about MMDG and its many programs
-Ensure all visitors, contractors, staff members, faculty, renters, students, and Wellness Center clients check in upon arrival
-Answer phones and forward calls as necessary
-Serve as a liaison between students, renters and administrative staff
-Uphold and enforce lobby and studio policies

-Work as part of the rental team, booking rehearsal space and processing payments in EMS scheduling software and Authorize.net payment processor
-Work with facilities team to respond to requests from studio users regarding temperature, resources, and equipment
-Oversee Adult Program class check-in and manage class capacity using MindBody software
-Register Children & Teens for semester and year-long classes using OutBound online software and process cash and check payments using CounterPoint Point of Sale software
-Support Operations team in training and supervising Work/Study
-Provide special event support, greeting and directing guests and managing event capacity as needed
-Accept incoming mail and packages to the Dance Center
-Maintain presentable appearance of the Front Desk area
-Serve as fire safety personnel and help manage emergency response for the Dance Center
-Create and submit incident reports for medical emergencies and any other issues related to safety at the Dance Center
-Open and close the building (depending on schedule)
-Provide feedback and advocate for constituent needs, receive updates and training, and collaborate with the Front Desk team to help resolve outstanding issues by attending the monthly Front Desk staff meeting

 

 

 

YOU ARE A GREAT CANDIDATE FOR THIS JOB IF YOU:

-Are knowledgeable about the dance field and have an interest in working with our Dance Center community made up of children, adults, and seniors, with and without disabilities

-Are proficient in Microsoft Office Suite/Google Drive and have experience working with MindBody, various scheduling software, and Point of Sale systems
-Are willing to complete Fire Guard Certification test and basic First Aid/CPR training required
-Have two+ years of customer service experience

 

YOU WILL BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE IF YOU:

-Have a superb attention to detail and demonstrate excellent time management skills
-Have excellent written and verbal communication skills (English required, additional languages a plus)
-Display maturity and composure under pressure and are able to adapt to change

ORGANIZATION SUMMARY

Founded in 1980, the Mark Morris Dance Group is an 18-member dance company headquartered at the Mark Morris Dance Center in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. The Mark Morris Dance Center, opened in September 2001, is home to the Mark Morris Dance Group, The School, a Studio Rental program and a Wellness Center. The Dance Center provides 160 weekly classes serving 1,800 children ages 18 months – 18 years. The Adult Program serves approximately 700 students per week through a variety of classes, workshops, master classes, and intensives. MMDG’s Community Education Programs serve the greater New York City area working with NYC Department of Education public and charter schools and community centers that serve NYC Housing Authority, seniors, and special needs populations among others. The Mark Morris Dance Group provides affordable rental space to the New York City arts community at the Dance Center through it’s Subsidized Rehearsal Space Program. With 7 column-free dance studios (including the 3,600-square foot James and Martha Duffy Performance Space) as well as a conference room, lounge and terrace, the Dance Center provides rental space to artists and community groups for a multitude of uses, from workshops and auditions to performances. MMDG also rents space to medical and bodywork practitioners and fitness instructors in its Wellness Center, a private treatment and exercise facility at the Dance Center.
