7Midnights Physical Research: Themed Dance Theater

7Midnights Physical Research is dedicated to the exploration of 7 social issues: Class, Education, Ability, Sexuality, Race, Age, Gender. Seven performances will take place throughout the year, and each performance will cover two or more than three topics of these social issues through dance. Each choreographer's work will express one or more themes of the seven social issues aligning with their thinking of dance and society. 

The 7 topics of social issues are going to be depicted by the dance movements through our "Themed Dance Theater" program. Our 7 topics are inspired by the 7 deadly sins and are aimed at investigating the dark side of humans and how they are shaped by our society. 

We hope to bring out seven midnight performances in 2019. Each midnight performance will present 8-10 (experimental) dance pieces created by different choreographers, addressing one or more social issues in our society. In this way, we hope we can participate in the broader discussion of the relationship between dance and society.

Notes: Choreographer’s dance works must be in relation to one of the social issues! Each midnight performance will include different themed dance works based on choreographer’s application. For example, the First Midnight Performance was the themes of Dark Lip(Gender), Falling Apple(Sexuality), Tiny Wings(Age), and Cloud Balloon(Ability). We hope to bring out seven midnight performances every year. Each midnight performance will present 8 or 10 dance works created by differnet dance artistis, addressing one or more social issues in our society. In this way, we hope we can participate in a boarder discussion of the relationship between dance and society.

Logistics of 7MPR Themed Dance Theater Program

Each of work must be no longer than 12mins.

Dress rehearsal will be at 3-7pm on the performance day. Each work will be allowed 20 minutes within this four-hours block.

Due to the nature of the space, lighting will be low-key but simple requests can be accommodated. 

There will be a Discussion Party following each show, no longer than an hour. Drinks & snacks will be complimentary.

The Second Midnight Performance will take place on April 26, 2019. Each performance will be an hour and 30 minutes in length (7:30-9pm).

(There might be a 10 minutes intermission during the show!)

 

How to Apply for 7MPR Themed Dance Theater Performance

Applicants will receive an Application Form after contacting us by our email: info@7mpr.com . Choreographers will be asked to fill out basic information about their proposed works. A link of work sample video is required for application, which can be a completed work, a previous work, or a work-in-progress.

Selected choreographers will be announced at the end of March, or the beginning of April 2019, and they will be asked for personal Bio, Headshot, dance and dancer’s information, as well as music flies for program design. 

 

Application Fee

Each applicant will be charged a $20 application fee(non-refundable). There will be an additional $30 charge for photograph and videotape, if choreographers would like to have their dance photo and video from us. Applicants will see the link of Paypal: PayPal.Me/7mpr on the bottom of the application form. Just click on it to submit your payment.  All the payment for photography and videotape must be done before the performance date.
