Dancewave brings together a diverse community of young people through dance education and performance. We believe that dance provides a forum for meaningful, positive exchange between kids of all backgrounds and cultures. Since its inception in 1995 by Diane Jacobowitz, Artistic/Executive Director, Dancewave has created programs that are challenging and artistically substantial, and which address young people's needs for individual achievement and group identity. Our pre-professional dance education and performance training programs offer young people a rare combination of high-level artistic integrity, educational rigor, and nurturing support.
Job Description:
Dancewave seeks Coaching Artists for its pre-professional youth Company Program during the 2019-2020 year (August 2019 – June 2020). This is a part-time hourly position (flexible, can be 5-10+ hours) that will require attendance at special events, evenings and possible weekend shifts. Note: A training workshop in late August will be required for all Coaching Artists.
Responsibilities:
Attend and manage Company/Ensemble rehearsals, events, and performances
Serve as a liaison between artists, students, families, and Dancewave administration; effectively managing relationships and regular communication with all parties
Play an active role during rehearsals, including (but not limited to) documentation, student mentoring, cueing breaks, leading warm ups, leading opening and closing circles and Regroup sessions
Attend professional development sessions and check-in meetings
Facilitate metrics program survey completion
Maintain student attendance and manage absence follow-ups
Ensure best practices in restorative models for student discipline
Successful candidates will demonstrate:
Professional and clear written and oral communication skills
Exemplary time management
An interest in restorative discipline
An interest in pre-professional dance training
Effective and appropriate youth supervision skills
A minimum of 1-2 years of dance teaching experience
Self-direction, while also working well with others
A friendly and fun demeanor
Experience working with youth from diverse backgrounds
