Hiring Assistant/Associate Professor

 

DESCRIPTION:The Department of Theatre and Dance seeks candidates of national or international stature to fill the position of tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor in Dance. Candidates should have an established career in performance, choreography, and teaching, with expertise in three or more of the following: Somatics, Dance Education, Technology, Dance History/Theory, Dance Wellness, Choreography, Dance Technique (African diasporic dance forms, Ballet, Modern, Contemporary, or other). Candidates will support the department’s commitment to culturally responsive pedagogy as evidenced by a teaching style that nurtures and supports all students. Candidates will also demonstrate an ability and interest in developing new courses to expand the department’s current offerings. A commitment to participating in shared governance and service on committees that sustain and bolster the department, the college, and the university is expected.

QUALIFICATIONS:In addition to pursuing an active research or creative agenda, the successful candidate will teach in both the undergraduate and the graduate degree programs, choreograph/set work on students, direct dance concerts, mentor student choreography and research, develop educational outreach programs with international dance institutions, and collaborate with the other members of the Department of Theatre and Dance to advance its mission. Administrative tasks will include curricular oversight, participation in university and national assessments, participation in jury exams, and student advisement. Candidates must have a terminal degree (M.F.A. or Ph.D.) in Dance, an active research or creative program (choreography, publications, dance films, etc.), and university-level teaching experience. In their application, candidates should address how their cultural, professional, and/or academic background would positively contribute to the Montclair State University Dance Division.

SALARY RANGE: Commensurate with experience.
