Audition: Multi-versed performers for Performa 19 Biennial performance

For Performa 19, choreographer and artist Cécilia Bengolea and artist, designer, and musician Michèle Lamy are creating a three-act performance to explore ideas of destruction, serenity, and pleasure. Bengolea and Lamy will play leading roles alongside ten other performers, comprising boxers, ballet, dancehall, vogue, and contemporary dancers. The performers will be dressed in iconic runway pieces by Rei Kawakubo, founder of Comme des Garçons and one of the most influential designers of the last century, selected from Lamy’s personal collection of over fifty unique pieces.

Performers of all ages, genders, ethnicities and backgrounds are encouraged to audition.

We are looking for performers with diverse skills and dance experience including—but not limited to—ballet, voguing, dancehall, gymnastics and martial arts.

To be considered please submit a video or videos indicative of your performance/dance experience in addition to a headshot,full-length photo, and link to your Instagram. Please submit all materials to bob@performa-arts.org no later than October 18 and include your cell phone number in the email.

Auditions will take place via skype with Cecilia (who lives in Paris). Performers will be contacted to set up a date and time to audition between 21 and 28 October.

Rehearsals: 4 hours per day, five days between 15 – 22 November

Performance: 23 November

Compensation: $100 per rehearsal + $300 performance fee

Requirements: Must be based in New York City. Must be available for all rehearsal and performance days. Exact times TBD.
