Rhythmically Speaking Call for Jazz and American Social Dance-Inspired Choreography
Company: Rhythmically Speaking
Location: St. Paul, MN
Compensation: Full production support for work in August 2020 show and minimum $1250 honorarium. Homestay provided if desired.
Rhythmically Speaking is a Twin Cities (MN)-based nonprofit with 10+ years of history supporting and presenting staged work inspired by jazz and American social dance ideas.
We are seeking choreographic submissions for The Cohort, a multiple choreographer production in August of 2020 at the Southern Theater in Minneapolis, MN. We will select from our open call for choreographers one “Local” (Minnesota-based) choreographer to make a new work alongside RS Artistic Director Erinn Liebhard, and two “Visiting” choreographers (based outside Minnesota) to revisit a piece of their repertoire. All four 15-22 minute works will be learned and performed by a group of 7-9 selected Twin Cities dancers.
Artists who are 21+ and at any point in their careers are welcomed to apply with an existing 15-22 minute work for eight dancers or less that is inspired by jazz or other American social dance ideas.
Important program and submission details, and submission form itself, are posted at the below link. Submissions are due at 5pm CST on Friday, October 25th. Feel free to contact us with questions!
“I am so glad that I got to know you this summer/work with you. Seriously, keep doing what you are doing. You have a great mission, amazing work ethic, and you are creating some amazing opportunities for artists out there. I feel lucky to be a part of the Minnesota family.”
– Rohan Bhargava (NYC), Choreographer for The Cohort (2019)
We look forward to seeing your work, and thank you for your interest in ours!
