2020 - 2021 NOCCA Dance Instructor

Position Overview:

 

Our ideal candidate is an accomplished artist with an aptitude to design and facilitate pre-professional training for high school students of advanced creative talents.  This person has the ability to work with students and parents of all social and economic backgrounds to meet or exceed program objectives. The candidate will demonstrate an innovative, creative spirit that is willing to go the extra mile in a teaching environment that values the artist-apprentice model.  

 

Successful applicants will have imagination, vision, and deep-rooted passion for spanning traditional boundaries among arts and academic disciplines.  As mentors to students, teachers must model integrity, fairness, flexibility, and high ethical standards. As leaders and colleagues, teachers must be able to demonstrate positive interactions and relationships with parents, faculty, administration, and staff. An enthusiasm for working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment characterized by continuous growth is critical.


 

Job Duties

 

Teaches dance conditioning, methods and materials in dance education, dance technique, movement theory, body alignment, dance ensemble, etc. specializing in Classical Ballet technique as well as pointe and pre-pointe training.

Sets course objectives, plans lessons, organizes, teaches Classical Ballet technique as well as pointe and pre-pointe as scheduled to middle and high school aged students enrolled in the regular day program, and the preparatory program.

Oversight of all classroom programs as assigned.

Monitors student progress for improvement, awards grades following established policies, and maintains course grades.

Attends NOCCA events, including some evenings and Saturdays for student shows, Celebration Season, audition workshops and mandatory meetings as requested.

Participates in professional growth opportunities as both an artist and an instructor and incorporates learning as appropriate.

Complies with NOCCA’s policies and procedures in accordance with required deadlines.

Create dance choreography for students on varying levels of proficiency.

Mentors students and oversees student external activities; including, but not limited to, field trips, enrollment in contests, etc, writing letters of recommendation, and assisting with audition preparation.

Collaborates with students, parents and counselor to facilitate students’ engagement and successful completion of the program, and preparation for life after NOCCA.

Works individually as assigned; including, but not limited to: lesson planning and instructional delivery; performance evaluations; coaching and feedback; professional development; and work schedules.

Maintains required office hours to provide assistance to students, both individually and in small groups. 

A demonstrated history of working effectively with diverse individuals. 

Ability to communicate well, both orally and in writing. computer and problem-solving skills and the ability to prioritize and plan activities

Strong organizational skills, and a commitment to excellence.

 

Qualifications

Minimum five years experience in the discipline or related field and comparable education, or combination.

Experience with teaching Classical Ballet technique as well as pointe and pre-pointe to high school and/or middle school students

Demonstrated understanding of the learning centered approach to teaching.

 

Preferred Experience

 

Teaching high school students

Demonstrated interest in the arts

Advanced degree

 

Education

A Bachelor’s Degree in discipline with some experience, or equivalency in professional work.

Experience with teaching Classical Ballet technique as well as pointe and pre-pointe to high school and/or middle school students.
