Director of Marketing and Communications

 

The Mark Morris Dance Group seeks a Director of Marketing and Communications to proactively, strategically, and creatively advance the reputation and brand visibility of Artistic Director/Choreographer Mark Morris and the touring Mark Morris Dance Group and Music Ensemble as well as broaden the reach and deepen the engagement with key audiences through education and community engagement programs. The Director is responsible for internal and external communications, representing and speaking on behalf of the organization, and playing an integral role in driving the messaging for the company’s 40th anniversary in the 2020-21 season. Providing vital leadership for a 3-person team, the Director will engage with stakeholders institution-wide from staff, Board and audience members to studio renters and class participants to theater presenters and booking and press agents. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Marketing and Communications is a key contributor to the senior leadership team which includes the Chief Financial Officer, Director of Development and the Director of Education.

The successful candidate will join a community of dedicated arts professionals who are propelled by Mark Morris’ commitment to artistic excellence and access to the arts and the impact that arts have in connecting and engaging communities.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Provide strategy, data, analysis and insights to the Executive Director and Department Heads to successfully define program objectives and set revenue benchmarks

Maintain and strengthen brand identity to increase local and global awareness of the organization’s mission and programs to a diverse group of constituencies

Work closely with Program Directors to develop, implement, and manage campaigns to support revenue goals ($5.3 million earned and $3.9 million contributed):

Build marketing and media partnerships to reach new audiences

Maximize marketing and advertising campaigns across multiple channels (manage media budgets, ad trafficking, Google Analytics, AdWords, and multichannel reporting)

Lead content creation and oversee production of all print and digital materials, including copy-editing/drafting

Oversee development of cross-channel content with freelance videographers, photographers, and designers

Measure and report on campaign effectiveness; Use data to drive future planning, analysis, and decision-making

Regularly communicate with the Board, Executive Director and Department Heads to ensure the organization can leverage upcoming engagement opportunities

Implement the company’s first-ever marketing CRM, overseeing the migration and integration of records from various databases: Active, MindBody, BigCommerce, Raiser’s Edge, EMS, and Mailchimp

Lead a 3-person in-house marketing team (Marketing & Communications Associate, Web & Social Media Manager, and Content Coordinator) and external PR/Media Consultant and designers

Qualifications:

At least 8 years’ experience in marketing, preferably within the cultural sector
Mastery of marketing and communications best practices
Excellent communication skills
Expertise in fundamentals of audience development and retention: ticket sales, classes and programs, deepened audience engagement, and donor conversion
Experience working with Google Analytics, Google Ad Network, Facebook Insights, email marketing platforms, and SEO
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Docs, Asana, and Wordpress preferred

Compensation and Benefits

Annual Salary: Commensurate with Experience
