OPEN CALL: SMASHWORKS DANCE 2020 COMPANY AUDITIONS 

Seeking experienced professional dancers with a strong Modern/Ballet technical background, unique artistic voice, and an interest in social activism and creative collaboration. The company is looking for and interested in working with dancers of all backgrounds and identities. 

2020 Season Contract runs March-June and September-December, with potential for additional performances during off months. Immediate and ongoing projects include pop-up performance in May, evening length performance Fall 2020, and tour to San Antonio, TX. Paid rehearsals and performances. 

Rehearsals are currently on Tuesdays from 10am-12pm as well as one other day per week. Schedule can be flexible depending on dancer availability.

WHO WE ARE 

Smashworks Dance is a New York based dance company founded in 2015 by choreographer Ashley McQueen. Since inception, Smashworks Dance has performed throughout the greater New York City metropolitan area and toured in Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, Kalamazoo, and St. Louis. Smashworks Dance was named a Village Voice “Voice Choices" for their evening length performance of City Stories at Center for Performance Research, and their evening length political satire For Which It Stands was featured in Time Out New York, Brokelyn’s “Top 20 Cheap Things To Do,” and the Dance Enthusiast. Smashworks and collaborator Hope Salas were awarded the Hotel New Works Residency, a 40 hour space grant and showing opportunity with Theater Lab NYC under the direction of Justin Cimino. 

Smashworks Dance is committed to community outreach through arts advocacy, and launched an Advocacy Initiative in 2018. Currently, Smashworks Dance partners with Girl Scouts of Greater New York to host confidence-building Dance Badge workshops.

Smashworks Dance is a New York based dance company directed by choreographer Ashley McQueen. We dance to advocate for human rights issues through educational programming, performing arts, and community outreach. We are a multi-faceted, international group of women artists and activists dedicated to promoting inclusiveness and diversity within our community. We view artistic expression as power. We advocate for dance as a unifying and empowering practice. We create experiences that incite change by challenging and invigorating our audiences.
