Education Internship

The Mark Morris Dance Group Education Department provides people of all ages and abilities access to meaningful artistic experiences. Through The School, Adult, and Community Education Programs, there are unique opportunities for over 10,000 students annually to explore, create, and celebrate dance and music with professional and diverse faculty at the Dance Center, throughout Brooklyn, and across New York City.

Education Interns have an imperative role that includes assisting day to day operations, participating in strategic planning, and communicating the mission of Mark Morris Dance Group to our families, teachers, and community members. From observing class to representing the company, the Education Internship is a comprehensive opportunity for those invested in exploring a career in dance education.

Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

-Ensure accuracy of robust support systems for teaching artists, musicians, and assistant teaching through database management and reporting
-Participate in weekly and monthly strategy meetings with Education, Marketing, Development, and Operations departments to develop an understanding of organizational goals
-Represent the Mark Morris Dance Group at Education events both on and off-site, including the opportunity to assist in a weekly dance class
-Contribute to day-to-day management and scheduling of Education Programs both on and off-site
-Create systems to streamline implementation of The School, Adult, and Community Programs
-Process and synthesize evaluations to reflect on program effectiveness
-Field registration inquiries for The School and Adult Programs at the Mark Morris Dance Center

Interns are an important part of the MMDG community. MMDG makes a commitment to providing project-based, meaningful work with a focus on career development for all interns. Participants will experience a broad overview of the organization through involvement with various special projects and events. Interns receive direct supervision and participate in regular check-ins with their on-site supervisor. Many have gone on to become full-time employees at the Mark Morris Dance Group and enjoyed successful careers in the nonprofit performing arts sector.

-Internships are hosted year-round for Fall, Winter/Spring, and Summer terms.
-Applicants must be 18+ and authorized to work in the US.
-The standard internship is 15 - 20 hours per week, but shorter or longer commitments will be reviewed on a case by case basis.

BENEFITS: WHAT OUR PROGRAM HAS TO OFFER

-Stipends are available when programs/schools do not provide them. For qualifying internships, a weekly stipend of $75 is offered per 15 - 20 hour per week commitment. Commitments with fewer or more hours may qualify for a corresponding adjustment in the amount of the stipend offered
