THE WATERMILL CENTER | DEVELOPMENT & SPECIAL EVENTS INTERNSHIP

 

The Watermill Center seeks qualified interns to assist with Development & Special Events, in particular The 27th Annual Watermill Center Summer Benefit & Auction (Saturday, July 25) and Discover Watermill Day (Sunday, August 9).

Founded in 1992 by avant-garde visionary and theater director Robert Wilson, The Watermill Center is an interdisciplinary laboratory for the arts and humanities situated on ten acres of Shinnecock ancestral territory on Long Island’s East End. With an emphasis on creativity and collaboration, Watermill a??integrates performing arts practice with resources from the humanities, research from the sciences and inspiration from the visual arts. a??The Center is unique within the global landscape of experimental artistic practice and regularly convenes the brightest minds from across disciplines to do, in Wilson’s words, “what no one else is doing.” For more information, visit www.watermillcenter.org.

Secondary* | The Watermill Center, 39 Watermill Towd Road, Water Mill, NY 11976

*Housing and transportation are provided for required travel to Water Mill, NY.

EMPLOYMENT TERMS

June 1, 2020 - August 21, 2020

This position is full time. Typical hours are from 10:00 - 5:00pm with some weekend and evening hours depending on the Foundation’s scheduled events (see above). Start and end dates are open to discussion. 

RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to

Assisting with two large-scale events, The 27th Annual Watermill Center Summer Benefit & Auction and Discover Watermill Day

Updating and managing mailing lists and databases 

Maintaining all Development and Special Event files 

Supporting all fundraising campaigns and events 

Conducting research on foundations, grants, sponsors and major donors 

Corresponding with donors and vendors 

Preparing pre- and post-event materials (including work with PR & Communications department)

Tracking ticket sales and guest lists

Drafting and editing grant requests and reports

QUALIFICATIONS 

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Acute attention to detail

Well organized and highly dependable

Familiarity with fundraising databases (eg. Salesforce) and Adobe Creative Suite (eg. InDesign, Photoshop)

Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Suite

Comfort with Internet research and data analysis 

Desire to learn about the diverse channels of fundraising and event management

Ability to work independently and be self-directed, while also able to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

Adapts to change easily

High energy and sense of humor
