Downtown Brooklyn Rehearsal Residency Initiative

With the Downtown Brooklyn Rehearsal Residency Initiative, the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership (DBP) invites proposals from artists and arts organizations to use the Plaza at 300 Ashland in Downtown Brooklyn as free, outdoor rehearsal space, beginning September 2020.

The Plaza at 300 Ashland is programmed by DBP and a diverse group of Brooklyn-based cultural institutions, enlivening the neighborhood and highlighting the Brooklyn Cultural District. This year, however, when large-scale programming is not possible and artists and arts organizations may not be able to use indoor studio spaces safely, DBP’s Downtown Brooklyn Rehearsal Residency Initiative will make the Plaza at 300 Ashland available for rehearsals of up to 15 people, free of charge.

Program Details
Program participants will have access to the Plaza at 300 Ashland up to three times per week for rehearsals up to three hours in length, between 12pm-8pm, 7 days a week. DBP will help secure any permits necessary to use the space, and will work with selected participants to address unique needs.

Review Criteria
Preference will be given to Brooklyn-based artists and organizations whose work will enliven the space. Select applicants will be invited to discuss their projects to gauge feasibility of their proposal for the space.

Please note:

The intended purpose is for rehearsal only
There is no stipend offered as part of the opportunity
The Plaza at 300 Ashland is an outdoor space. Artists should be comfortable with their rehearsals being viewed by the public
In case of inclement weather, DBP will try to reschedule rehearsals
No invited audiences are permitted
The Plaza at 300 Ashland does not have access to discipline-specific amenities such as a sprung dance floor, marley, amps, etc.
Artists must provide their own supplies and tools and these must be approved by DBP
There is no storage or parking at the site
Participants will be required to observe mandatory health and safety guidelines according to New York City and State COVID-19 regulations
No use of heat or fire is permitted
Incorporated non-profit organizations will be required to submit a certificate of insurance and name DBP and its affiliates as additionally insured. We will work with independent artists to ensure that they meet all insurance requirements

Application
To apply, please complete this form. Inquiries will be accepted on a rolling basis should capacity permit.
