Open Call: Fall 2021 Artist Residencies at The Center at West Park

The Center at West Park's Sanctuary Space Cory Antiel Productions

The Center at West Park (CWP) is a non-profit community performing arts center based in the historic West Park Presbyterian Church, a New York City Landmark in the heart of the Upper West Side. CWP’s Artist Residency program nurtures exemplary and boundary-pushing theater, dance, puppetry, opera, multi-, and inter-disciplinary performance artists and companies by providing free performance and rehearsal space with a guaranteed artist fee. We support the creation of new works and the reworking of classic texts in contemporary contexts in order to amplify the voices of the diverse performing artists of New York City and to engage, inspire, and transform our community through the arts.

Since 2017, the Center at West Park has provided over 60 residencies serving over 500 individual artists and presented over 200 performances to over 10,000 audience members.

In Fall 2021, six individual artists or companies will be offered residencies at CWP to produce and perform original works of theater, dance, music, and interdisciplinary performance as part of THE INTERRUPTION: A Curated Performance Series. Each Residency will culminate in a weekend of three ticketed public performances of an evening-length work at CWP. Fall 2021 Residencies are available between August 30 and December 19, 2021.

THE INTERRUPTION is curated by CWP Guest Curators Debra Ann Byrd, Melanie Greene, and Elliot Reed. Three residencies will be offered by invitation from the curators, and three will be offered to artists who apply through our open call below. Applications are due by Friday, April 9 at 11:59 PM. Applicants will be notified by the end of the day on Monday, May 10.
