Volunteer Position: NYC Regional Director

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

NACHMO is seeking a Regional Director for our New York City hub. This is an unpaid volunteer position that has the primary responsibility of overseeing successful operations of our foundational and largest hub. It’s an opportunity for someone who enjoys interacting with dance artists, is a clear and friendly communicator, and is looking to deepen their experience in arts administration.

This position reports directly to the Regional Director Coordinator and leads a team of volunteer staff that executes marketing and social media; development; production; website; and video creation. The NYC Regional Director interfaces with the Regional Director Coordinator to ensure that the NYC Hub is in keeping with NACHMO’s core values.

The successful candidate will join a community of dedicated and creative people who are committed to our mission of building a connected, active, and accessible community of dance makers across the country.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

-Lead volunteer staff of 7-10 including a marketing director, production team, development officer, event volunteers and possibly interns.

-Schedule and facilitate monthly NYC hub meetings

-Assist in production of NYC Studio and Theater Shows

-Manage @nachmonyc Instagram account and consider potential growth of other Social Media channels 

-Ensure that NYC activities are in keeping with our core values, including focusing on the process of dance-making and creating a welcoming community open to all. 

-Interface with the Regional Director Coordinator - respond in a timely manner to inquiries from the RD Coordinator and join 3-5 zoom calls with the RD Coordinator.

-Attend NACHMO events when possible.

-Serve one year in the role, with the option to extend for a longer tenure if agreed by both the individual, RD Coordinator, and Board of Directors.

-Time commitment: approximately 3 hours per week September-February and 2 hours per week March-August.

 

YOU WILL BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE IF YOU ARE:

-A team player – NACHMO is staffed by an active and creative group of volunteers who work together to set and meet project goals each season. Good email etiquette is a must!

-Self-directed – those who thrive at NACHMO excel at working independently, implementing their own ideas and reporting back to the group.

-Interested in dance and choreography and motivated to make the choreographic process more accessible to dancers, choreographers, and movers of all kinds.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

-Excellent communication skills

-Proficiency with Google Docs

-An entrepreneurial spirit

-Experience in arts administration is preferred but not required

 

RECOGNITION:

-This is an unpaid volunteer position, as are all of the positions in the NYC hub. For that reason, we strive to create a fun and rewarding culture where each person is doing work they’re interested in and team members’ contributions are acknowledged and celebrated.

-You will have the opportunity to show a piece during the gala and/or theater show, waiving the performance fee. 

-NACHMO board members are happy to serve as references and/or provide letters of recommendation.
