Dancing Classrooms New York City Accepting Teaching Artist Applications

Start Teaching as early as February, 2022!

Dancing Classrooms (DC) cultivates essential life skills in young people through the joyful art and practice of social dance. Through standards-based, in-and-out-of-school residencies, we use the vocabulary of social and partner dance to cultivate essential social, emotional, cognitive and personal traits inherent in every child. Made famous by the acclaimed 2005 documentary “Mad Hot Ballroom”, Dancing Classrooms has been a leader in social dance education for 26 years, partnering with hundreds of NYC schools to deliver its programs to thousands of students each year.

What A Dancing Classrooms Teaching Artist Does: Drawing on their own unique talents and rigorous training provided by DC, Teaching Artists (TAs) are responsible for delivering DC's programs through sequential residencies, at schools and community based organizations across NYC. Be a part of the excitement and develop your own skills by joining our Teaching Artist team!

Dancing Classrooms Teaching Artists are: Actors, dancers, educators, individuals who can move with rhythm; have excellent interpersonal skills; love kids; able to work in a team; work in a classroom; have a generous spirit; a sense of humor, of language, of rhythm; willingness to travel within NYC’s 5 boroughs. Previous teaching artist experience is not required, but a plus. Individuals with experience teaching or working in an after school setting are especially encouraged to apply!

We are holding in-person auditions for TA candidates on Monday, December 13th & Wednesday December 15th (Time and NYC location TBA.)

Applicants must be available to attend a 5-day training January 3-7 and commit to teaching a sequential residency at least 2 days per week in a school setting during the hours of 8am and 3pm or 2pm and 6pm. All TAs must be fingerprinted and pass a Dept. of Education background check, and may be asked to complete additional fingerprinting/checks for other city agencies if needed. Accepted TAs will be paid a stipend for January training. Training commitment is non-negotiable, please do not apply if you’re unable to commit to attending training.
