Dance Church (no religious affiliation) has been bringing people together through the joy and release of dance since 2010. Our classes are one part fitness, one part performance, and one part dance party. Hundreds of thousands of people have attended in person pop-up classes around the world or on the internet at go.dancechurch.com. Dance Church is designed for people of all shapes and sizes, backgrounds, and identities, and builds connection and community through shared experiences. We are on a mission to empower dancers everywhere — from teachers to takers, we believe that dance is for every body and every body is a dancer. 

 

We are hiring dance artists who are based in New York City and Los Angeles, to be trained in Dance Church and lead weekly in-person classes at our partnering spaces in NYC & LA, and to take part in Dance Church Go productions from our studio space in Seattle. 

 

Our teachers are the core of our company and the foundation of our brand. We are seeking dancers who identify as “Professional Dance Artists” and who are actively working in the field of Dance. You should have extensive performance, improvisation and teaching experience, as well as the desire to learn a new format which includes; entering a space of direction, receiving feedback, iterating in groups, 1:1s, and yearly retreats. 

 

Dance Church is a dance-forward, startup company that is growing fast. All Dance Church Teachers are required to communicate regularly with area leads and managers and meet scheduling and playlists deadlines. Reliability and accountability are key for this role.  

 

Training Process:

All hired Dance Church Teachers are paid to be trained in Dance Church formats. Folx will undergo an in-person training process (NYC or LA) that involves learning the history, methodology, and practices of Dance Church. Training includes learning the Dance Church Playlist Building processes, community engagement activities, and taking IRL & Go classes in order to prepare individuals to be leaders for our community. All hired teachers will have bi-monthly check-ins to help support growth. The full training process will span over 4-6 months, however individuals will begin leading the community during this time. 

 

Hiring Process:

Applications open December 15, 2021 - January 9th, 2022. Once closed, Dance Church will be hosting virtual call-backs January 12th through January 17th. From there, select individuals  will be invited to take part in an in-person “Audition” on January 30th in NYC, and February 5th in Los Angeles. 

 

Responsibilities:

Train in the codified Dance Church system for both in-person and Dance Church Go classes

Teach Dance Church in-person classes regularly in New York City or Los Angeles.

Teach and back-up dance in Dance Church Go productions 

Be an ambassador for the Dance Church brand throughout the Dance Church platform, marketing channels and social campaigns

Stay actively engaged inside of communication with supervisors, management and fellow teachers

This position at Dance Church is on a fee-based model, with hourly compensation for Training and Flat Rate fees for teaching. Over the next year, some teachers will have an opportunity to apply for a salaried role, which includes health insurance and equity.
