DANCER AUDITIONS JANUARY 2022

NOTE: The response to this call has been overwhelming, and as of today (12/8), we'll need to limit new applicants to the waitlist. New applications are welcome, but we will only be able to consider you as spots become available. We expect to begin reaching out to previous applicants in the next few days.

Periapsis Music and Dance seeks dynamic, creative, experienced performers to join its ensemble for this season and beyond. Our repertoire is built with our resident artists and commissioned guests, and is distinguished by highly collaborative processes between choreographer and composer, and between dancers and musicians.

Our guest choreographers this season will be Gabrielle Lamb, Da’ Von Doane, and PeiJu Chien-Pott, and resident choreographers Rohan Bhargava and Evita Zacharioglou will also be creating work on the company. We expect to cast several roles through these auditions, and there will be opportunities to work with both our resident and guest artists.

Past guest choreographers include Seán Curran, Janis Brenner, Joshua Beamish, Norbert De La Cruz III, Kate Skarpetowska, Alia Kache, Helen Simoneau, Miro Magloire, Manuel Vignoulle, Annalee Traylor, and Wendell Gray II. We anticipate future seasons will continue to include a mix of resident and guest work, so versatility and adaptability are key components for our ensemble, as is openness to collaborative processes.

Our main performances this season will be the weekend of May 20-22, so availability that weekend and leading up to it is a must. Additional performances during the spring and summer are pending. We generally rehearse 1-2 times per piece per week, with times adaptable to our artists’ schedules. Everybody is a freelancer, so we do our best! Pay for new members will be in the range of $25-$28 per hour (W-2) for rehearsals and performances and will increase for future seasons. We rehearse at various studios in NYC.

Auditions will be held at the following times in January 2022, at Mark Morris Dance Center:
Tuesday, 1/18, 10:00 am
Tuesday, 1/18, 11:30 am
Wednesday, 1/19, 7:00 pm

Callbacks will be held on Friday, 1/21, 11:00 am-1:00 pm, also at Mark Morris Dance Center.
