Seeking Dancers for Emerging Choreographer Series 2022!

Mare Nostrum Elements is seeking dancers for the Emerging Choreographer Series (ECS) 2022.

Choreographers: Alyssa Faye and Tomislav Nevistic

Commitment: These pieces are part of Mare Nostrum Elements’ Emerging Choreographer Series Program which consists of up to 45 rehearsal hours, one orientation meeting, one work-in-progress showing, plus tech and dress rehearsals and performance or filming dates.

Project Timeline: February 6th to April 27th, 2022

Mandatory Dates: 

* February 6th: Program Orientation, 12-2pm EST (virtual) 

* April 4th: Work-in-Progress Showing, 1.5 hour between 3-10pm EST

* April 21st & 22nd: Tech days, 2-hours on either day TBD  

* April 25th: Dress rehearsal (between 12-10pm EST)

* April 26th & 27th: Show dates, 6pm EST call time on each day

Covid Compliance Alternative Performance Method: Performance method will be determined by late-March and could include live-stream, virtual recorded performance, outdoor performance, or limited audience in an indoor theater space if traditional live performance is not possible. 

Location Requirement: New York City residents only. Must be able to commute to rehearsal venues in Manhattan, Queens, & Brooklyn.  

COVID-19 Information: 

All dancers must be fully vaccinated as defined by the CDC at the time of submitting applications. This is a mandatory requirement from our partner venue, LaGuardia Performing Arts Center. Additionally, choreographers and dancers will be required to wear masks for the entirety of rehearsals, handwashing is required at the start and end of each rehearsal, and all rehearsal venue specific guidelines must be followed.  

Compensation: $15/hr for up to 45 hours of rehearsals plus $250 stipend for tech, dress, orientation, and showing.

Alyssa Faye is Looking For:  

* 1 contemporary dancer with strong interest in dance theater, improvisation, and athletic movement. 

* Qualities appreciated in a performer include: dynamic, expressive, articulate, and generous. 

* This piece presents an examination of diaspora and its accompanying mythologies, focusing specifically on the two acts of violence and care. The tone is weighted, earthy, dark—but a quality of softness will also be at play, indicative of nurture and tribe.

* Must be available to rehearse 4-6 hours per week during the program, days/times TBD

* Dancers of all gender/gender expressions, sexual orientation, race, and ethnicity are encouraged to apply!

* 1-Page Resume

* Video material demonstrative of individual skill/personality. This can be a reel, choreographed movement, or improvisation and does not need to be professionally shot/edited. 

* Video material should exceed 30 seconds, but be less than 5 minutes in total length

* Please share links to YouTube or Vimeo only and provide a password if required.

* Confirm vailability for ECS Mandatory Dates outlined above

Tomislav Nevistic is Looking For:

* 2 contemporary dancers with strong background in ballet and modern techniques

* Must be available to rehearse 4-6 hours per week spread out over two days, possibly between Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturdays, time TBD

* Dancers of all gender/gender expressions, sexual orientation, race, and ethnicity are encouraged to apply!

NOTE: Dancers should send separate emails to each choreographer that they are interested in working with, final decisions will be made by January 20th, 2022. There will be a Round 2 callback (virtual) to assess the right candidates for the role.
