Production Manager - Mark Morris Dance Center - Freelance

 

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

The Mark Morris Dance Group is seeking a Production Manager to oversee all aspects of technical production for the James and Martha Duffy Performance Space located at the Mark Morris Dance Center in the thriving Downtown Brooklyn Cultural District. The Performance Space is a 3400 square foot unobstructed dance studio that can be converted into a 4-wing black box theater that includes audience risers with a maximum of 166 seats; masking and cyclorama; a repertory light plot specifically designed for dance (consisting of 120 dimmers and approx. 180 lighting units); and a professional sound system.

As Production Manager, this position supervises all technical production staff. Typical productions in the space include dance performances, musical events, fundraisers for local non-profits, annual conferences, community forums, student performances, and community showings. This position will work with the MMDG production team when there are MMDG performances at the Dance Center.

The successful candidate will have a thorough knowledge of technical production, experience with hiring and supervising production crews, and the communication and organizational skills to effectively coordinate production needs cross-departmentally for events and performances at the Dance Center.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:

Production Management of the James and Martha Duffy Performance Space

Manage technical advance coordination for events

Provide accurate technical information to prospective renters/producers
Create production schedules and staffing needs per event, providing accurate cost calculations to the Operations Department based on these needs
Produce technical riders for agreements

Hire and supervise temporary technical production staff

Supervise all load-ins, technical work, performances, load outs, and restores

Create, update and maintain technical package and related technical documents
Implement all safety regulations and verify compliance by renters/producers with all pertinent laws, rules, regulations (fire, ADA, etc.)
Manage and stock production supplies, including audio/visual presentation technology including audio equipment, projectors, televisions, and sound systems
Schedule maintenance work, preventive or other, for all production equipment and coordinate maintenance and repair work for the space with the Facilities Department
Assist Director of Technical Production with maintenance, construction, preparation, and loading and unloading of company sets and props at the MMDG warehouse and Dance Center.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience working in a theatrical environment in the Performing Arts sector

Thorough knowledge of all aspects of theater-technical production

Familiarity with the principals and concepts of lighting and audio design
Extensive hands-on experience with scenic, electrical and audio installations as well as rigging
General familiarity with various light boards and equipment, sound desks, speakers and microphones
Ability to make calculations for power distribution and load balancing
Knowledge of wiring and cabling of PA systems
Ability to interpret technical paperwork like light plots, hook-ups, sound diagrams and input lists
Experience hiring, scheduling, managing and teaching technical staff
Ability to make production related decisions on the fly with an open mind and a healthy incline towards using common sense
Solid time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects

 

REQUIRED TRAINING:

Dance Center Floor Warden and Fire Guard Safety Training
FDNY Certificate of Fitness F03 (Place of assembly emergency personnel) + recertification (required every 3 years)
FDNY Certificate of Fitness C15 (Supervision of Flame Retardant Treatment)
COVID-19 related: MMDG COVID19 Safety Plan and Dance Center Health and Safety policies

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to lift, push, pull, hold, and/or carry objects and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
Must be able to climb stairs, kneel, and crouch.
Able to work on top of a scaffold.
