Limón Dance Company Seeking Entrepreneurial Executive Director with a passion for Fundraising & Communications

Limon Dance Company Logo n/a

The José Limón Dance Foundation seeks an entrepreneurial Executive Director with a passion for fundraising, communications, and the performing arts. Dedicated to preserving, producing, and furthering the legacy of one of the most influential dancers and choreographers in the history of American modern dance, the New York City-based Foundation encompasses a professional dance Company; artistic training & educational programs; and an archival library. Opportunities exist for an enterprising and motivated leader to: increase the Company’s visibility by articulating its distinctive value proposition & crafting a compelling case for support; diversify revenue by expanding its individual and targeted giving programs; assist in growing its committed group of board members; and expand programming opportunities through partnerships, touring, residencies, commissions, and educational programs.

Candidates interested in assuming a first-time executive director position are invited, as well as those with previous organizational leadership experience.

The executive leadership position offers ample opportunity for a creative and dynamic fundraiser and communicator to make a significant impact on both the organization and Limón’s influence in the field. Limón’s humanistic approach to movement and theater has been described as a physical expression of the human spirit and serves as a powerful vehicle for social cohesion today. A peer of modern dance luminaries Martha Graham, Paul Taylor, and Merce Cunningham, Limón’s work reflects and elevates communities and identities influenced by a confluence of cultures and has the capacity to move people across generations and social divides. Immigrating to the United States from Mexico in 1918, Limón is considered one of Mexico’s greatest artistic exports and a role model for Latinx communities throughout the United States. Numerous honors have been bestowed upon both Limón and the Company including the White House’s 2008 National Medal of Arts for Lifetime Achievement.

The Executive Director will serve as a strategic partner and collaborator to Artistic Director Dante Puleio; will be a persuasive communicator and ambassador for the organization; and will provide forward-thinking leadership internally and externally that maximizes the Institution’s assets and drives deep engagement among the Institution’s stakeholders committed to, and inspired by, its work.
