Re-Imagining: The Dance-Making Process
Company: Aangan: South Asian Center for Art & Thought
Location: Rego Park, NY
Compensation: Honorarium $100
Aangan’s mission is to serve South Asian art, artists, and aesthetes of all backgrounds. We seek to build community by fostering learning and dialogue across art forms and creating spaces for artists to convene, collaborate, present, and reflect on their work.
As dance creators, we observe and engage with a lot of South Asian art production taking place around the city. We recognized that there is a lack of a forum to have meaningful, constructive conversations around the work being created, and often a disconnect between artists working in different mediums. So we started dreaming and discussing to re-imagine how we gather around our art.
Re-Imagining: The Dance-Making Process is an an opportunity for South Asian dance artists practicing any movement-based form or a person practicing South Asian dance form to present and receive critical feedback on their work in progress dance pieces from mentors, peers, and audience members in the fine arts space in NYC.
