Shades Dance Theater is seeking dancers for our 2023  project. Dancers will be compensated for their time. Shades is a mixed repertory dance company that invites dancers from all walks of life to come together to participate in innovative storytelling.

We are looking for highly trained, intelligent artists who are able to convey a story through their emotions and movement. Shades Dance Theater strives to create an inclusive space that is welcoming of all artists regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, or religion. Dancers from multiple race and ethnic backgrounds are encouraged to submit materials. 

To be considered, dancers must be eighteen (18)  years or older and be fully vaccinated. Dancers should demonstrate strong ballet technique (pointe work not required, but is encouraged), as well as modern and contemporary technique. Dancers with a background in styles such as Jazz, Dunham, West African, and Hip Hop are highly encouraged to audition. 
Interested dancers are asked to submit a resume, dance reel, and headshot/action shot  as a pre-screen prior to the audition. Videos should be uploaded to YouTube or Vimeo and made accessible through a link. Please submit all other materials in PDF format. Once we receive these materials, select dancers will be invited to audition in person on August 20th. 

Auditions will take place at Gibney Studios (280) on August 20th.

If selected to audition in person, the audition consist of learning repertory. There will be NO ballet/ warm up class. Dancers should be prepared learn 2-3 different dance styles/ phrases. 
Hair should be pulled back from your face. Dancers should wear flesh ballet flats or pointe shoes. Convertible tights are encouraged as dancers may be required to be barefoot for the repertory.
