Dancing Classrooms New York City is Accepting Teaching Artist Applications

Apply to become a NYC Dancing Classrooms Teaching Artist! Start teaching as early as January 2023!

Dancing Classrooms (DC) is a dance organization committed to bringing social dance to NYC schools and community based organizations while helping students develop teamwork, respect, compassion, and leadership. Through various programming, DC has evolved over the years to include culturally responsive and sustaining educational (CRSE) practices, a commitment to gender inclusion and diversity, and the expansion of both in- and out-of-school programming to connect with students in new ways. We are looking for dancers, movers, social dancers, ballroom dancers, movement explorers, dance educators…any and all who find joy in expressing through movement. Be a part of the excitement and develop your own skills by joining our Teaching Artist team! 
DC is currently hiring Teaching Artists to teach our Core Program for grades 4-5 and Teaching Artists to teach our After-School Program for grades K-8. Applicants may apply to be a part of either cohort or both.

Core Program Requirements/Qualifications:
1. Possess excellent interpersonal skills 
2. Love kids
3. Ability to work on a team
4. Have a generous spirit
5. Have a sense of humor, of language, and of rhythm
6. Be willing to travel within NYC’s 5 boroughs
7. Availability to teach at least two days a week during the school year 
**Previous teaching artist experience is encouraged, but not required for the Core Program.**

After-School Program Requirements/Qualifications:All of the Core Program requirements listed above and…
1. 1-2 years teaching experience
2. Have expertise in at least 1-2 social dance styles
3. Possess strong classroom management skills
4. Ability to create lesson/unit plan
5. Be willing and able to adapt a curricular framework to include student’s interests and cultures

All TAs must commit to teaching a sequential residency at least 2 days per week in a school setting during the hours of 8am and 3pm (Core Program) and/or during the hours of 3pm-6pm (After-School Program). All TAs must be fingerprinted and pass a Dept. of Education background check, and may be asked to complete additional fingerprinting/checks for other city agencies if needed. 

 

IMPORTANT DATES:
We are holding in-person auditions for TA candidates on Friday, December 2nd from 2:15-5:15pm and Saturday, December 3rd from 12-3pm (Location will be at Mark Morris Dance Center in Brooklyn.) Please designate on the application which day(s) you are available to audition. Applicants will be notified of which day to attend. After the in-person audition, selected applicants will be asked to participate in round 2 interviews via Zoom the week of December 5th. Applicants for the After-School Program must be available to attend a half-day training on Thursday, December 8th (morning session) OR Friday, December 9th (afternoon session). (You must attend either the morning or afternoon session). Applicants for the Core Program must be available to attend a 5-day training December 16th-21st; 12/18 is a day off. (These dates are full day from 9am-5pm). 

Accepted TAs will be paid a stipend of $15/hr for training. If hired to teach a residency, TAs are paid per residency, based on a $50/hr instructional rate and $25/hr planning rate. After-school residencies will have additional planning time.
