ECS 2023 - Trans/GNC-Identified BIPOC dancers needed

ECS 2023 returning choreographer Ke’ron J. Wilson, is looking for 2-3 Trans/GNC-Identified BIPOC dancers - Black Trans-Femmes are encouraged to apply!

This new piece is an installment of a larger story I'm building through multiple mediums. It will be an exploration of community care, support, and sustainability between those in the trans+ community. My goal is  to celebrate our commitment to each other.

Must be comfortable with partnering work and experimentation, and interested in exploring aspects of dance theater. 

Commitment: This piece is part of Mare Nostrum Elements’ Emerging Choreographer Series Program which consists of up to 45 rehearsal hours, one orientation meeting, tech and dress rehearsal, and 3 performance/showing dates.

Project Timeline: January 9th to April 2nd, 2023

Mandatory Dates: 

December 20th 2022: Program Orientation, 11am-1pm EST (virtual) 

March 22nd, 23rd, & 24th 2023: Tech days, 2-hour commitment on one of these days

March 27th 2023: Dress rehearsal & Invited Showing (Please hold entire day)

March 28th & 29th 2023: Show dates, 6pm EST call time on each day

April 2nd 2023: Informal Matinee Showing, Reception, & Q&A (TBD)

 

Location Requirement:

New York City residents only or must be able to commute to rehearsal venues in Manhattan, Queens, & Brooklyn.  

 

COVID-19 Information

IMPORTANT: All dancers must be fully vaccinated as defined by the CDC at the time of submitting applications. This is a mandatory requirement from our partner venue, LaGuardia Performing Arts Center. Additionally, choreographers and dancers will be required to follow all rehearsal venue specific guidelines.  

 

Compensation

$15/hr for up to 45 hours of rehearsals + 2 hours for orientation meeting, plus $250 stipend for tech, dress, and showings.

1) A performance resume

2) A 1-2 minute improvisational Video with a slate identifying your name, pronouns, and answering the following questions:

This piece explores themes related to community care, support, change and activism. Are you comfortable with openly exploring these themes with the choreographer and the cast?

If so, what’s your understanding of the relationship between activism, care, and sustainability? 

In what ways are you a change maker in your communities? 

3) A performance reel *if you have one* *NOT REQUIRED* Share the link to the YouTube or Vimeo with a password, if applicable
