Creative Exchange and Artist Residencies in SW France

Residency at Moulin/Belle, a french home with a blue cloudy sky Mari Meade

Moulin/Belle is an art residency founded in 2020 in Mareuil en Perigord in Dordogne, France. Participants live in a shared space (private and shared bedrooms available) and spend their time creating, relaxing, working, gardening, conversing, rehearsing, making and generally slowing down. Our town of 1,000 people is accessible from Paris or Bordeaux, and once here all necessities are within walking distance. Details on the two programs found below.

Moulin/Belle values Creativity, Simplicity, Sustainability and Accessibility.

-Creative Exchange Program: March 31-April 8, Application deadline: January 15, 2023

The Creative Exchange program happens three times a year. Currently there are only two spots in our April program. This program includes two professional development sessions (Brave Space and Application Best Practices Workshop), option to take/give class with the other artists, opportunity for collaboration, daily art-making time (studio space for movers, piano/music room, desks/easels, etc), a traditional French welcome meal, and a Field trip to "The Venice of Perigord". As part of the Exchange program, participants volunteer for 6 hours in the garden and/or projects, and are welcome to enjoy fruits, vegetables, eggs and anything the land provides. Additional optional activities include taking local dance classes, going on hikes, taking a ceramic class and more. Once accepted, the subsidized fee is 250euros for a shared room (two people), or 300euros for a private room.

"In Process" Artist in Residency, Rolling deadline depending on availability

In Process is geared towards individual makers or collectives/groups/companies that need time to slow down and dive into process. This is a self-led program, open ended so it can be shaped into the type of residency needed for the artists. Past residents have made films, written songs, journaled for new works, created and shown works in process dance pieces, and more. Dates March-October are available based on availability. Artists generally stay 3 days-3 weeks. This program includes one professional development session based on the needs of the artist (grant review, mission statement, starting a non-profit, etc). Daily process time is provided art-making time (studio space for movers, piano/music room, desks/easels, etc), and an option BUT NOT REQUIREMENT to have a sharing/showing. As part of the In Process program, participants volunteer for 3 hours a week in the garden and/or projects, and are welcome to enjoy fruits, vegetables, eggs and anything the land provides. Additional activities include taking local dance classes, going on hikes, taking a ceramic class, field trips to local towns, and more. Residency fee is 30euros/night per person. Fellowships available, prioritizing BIPOC applicants.
