Dance Artist Residency at Homeport Art House - Applications Open

A pastel colored home sits tucked away behind a number of trees. Dappled sunlight hits the house and green grass of the backyard

Homeport Art House - a new dance focused artist residency in rural mid-coast Maine is now accepting applications for Summer '23 artist residency. HAH is co-directed by Thryn Saxon and Dale Andree.

The mission of Homeport Art House Residency is to offer dance artists the freedom to create work in a comfortable home environment, supported by Maine’s natural beauty, and to engage with the local community by sharing their process through informal presentations, workshops, or other offerings. There are two residencies available this year, each one week, in July and August.

Artists are expected to engage with community while in residence. If selected artist will determine their engagement with the residents of South Thomaston and how that engagement will best support their work. The opportunity for exchange and for learning exists equally for the artists and the community. HAH is committed to supporting artists who have a clear sense of the importance of this reciprocity. Basic marketing and technical assistance for these exchanges will be supported on-site.

Artists will live in the home with full access to the amenities, including 3 bedrooms with 5 beds, two bathrooms, and a full kitchen. The creative space includes a 20’ X 30’ dance studio, two acres of land on the Weskeag River, and a tidal inlet off Penobscot Bay. Kayaks are available for use when the tide is high. When the tide is low venturing into the mudflats is just as exciting. In addition, there are many local small, rocky beaches, wetlands, fishing harbors, and lighthouses only a short drive away. For museums, local shops, and delicious restaurants, Rockland, the art capital of mid-coast Maine, is a ten-minute drive from HAH.

Residency Date Options:

 July 22nd-29th
August 12th-19th

Artist Fees - artist fees are contingent on artists being present for the full residency

1 artist - $500
2 -3 artists - $750 (total)
