OPEN CALL: TRANS PERFORMERS

Open Call: Trans Performers. New Work in Development, “WAITING / POINTING.” Below are two line drawings of dancers pointing.

Seeking dance and theater performers of all trans and nonbinary identities for my new work in development: “WAITING / POINTING.”

ABOUT: this physical theater/movement project is about transness, gesture, and directionality. POINTING: towards, away from, or beyond gender, and WAITING: in the words of Andrea Long Chu, “to admit that … transsexual is not identity but desire is to admit just how much of transition takes place in the waiting rooms of wanting things.” This work was originally commissioned as a site-specific piece in the WestFest: All Over Westbeth Series and is now in the second stage of development.

TO APPLY: Send a short excerpt of work 1-3 min in length along with a bio to lou.sydel@gmail.com or DM @gesturestudies on instagram. Strong improvisation and devising experience is a plus. This is an unpaid opportunity to develop collaborative ensemble work.

Applications due by September 13. Rehearsals start late September with a performance on November 19th (performers must be available that entire day for tech).

Please don't hesitate to reach out with questions :)
