SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
The Mark Morris Dance Group is seeking a full-time experienced HR professional to join our team as an HR Business Partner. This newly created Department Head level position will play a vital role in supporting our staff and supervisors by working collaboratively with leaders and staff across the organization to create and implement HR strategies that align with our mission, vision, and values, while supporting the growth and development of our staff members. The HR Business Partner will work in partnership with our PEO, Insperity, to support the full employee life cycle, from recruiting, hiring, and onboarding to benefits administration and labor laws compliance to managing professional development opportunities, employee relations and ongoing support of our staff and supervisors. The HR Business Partner is the primary liaison to the Insperity PEO support team including a dedicated HR Consultant, Benefits Specialist, Payroll Specialist, DEI Consultant, as well as Strategic Consulting Services, EAP, and other resources.
With a current annual operating budget of $8.5 million and employing approx. 200 employees (50 full-time and 150 part-time) the non-profit organization operates the Mark Morris Dance Center in Brooklyn, NY, home to the internationally renowned Mark Morris Dance Group and MMDG’s Education and Community Engagement Programs. The successful candidate will join a community of dedicated arts and administrative professionals who are propelled by Mark Morris’ commitment to artistic excellence, access to the arts, and the impact that the arts have in connecting and engaging communities.
RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:
Employee Relations and Professional Development
• Coach and assist managers on employee relations matters including providing guidance on behavior and performance matters. Partner with Insperity to resolve complex employee relations issues, deferring to leadership, Board HR Committee and/or legal counsel as necessary.
• Review and revise employee relations documentation including corrective actions and performance improvement plans.
• Further evolve performance development programs and leadership development programs. Support team leads as coach/thought partner to improve their teams’ engagement.
• Foster an environment that ensures MMDG is increasingly inclusive and diverse across all positions, levels, teams, and ways of work.
• Develop effective employee relations protocols and ensure information is distributed and available to all staff through a variety of communication modes.
• Provide guidance to employees and supervisors to guarantee that staff are informed of avenues for support and reporting concerns.
• Coordinate training in interviewing, hiring, performance management, safety, sexual harassment, inclusion, and diversity.
Payroll, Benefits and Compliance
• Collaborate with the Insperity Payroll and Benefits support team to coordinate onboarding, benefits open enrollment, state/federal compliance, and PTO/Leave management.
• Maintain the Employee Handbook and guarantee that it is distributed to all employees and available through several modes of communication.
• Maintain knowledge of and be able to effectively communicate information regarding employee benefits programs, including payroll deductions; paid time off and other forms of leave; health, dental, vision, and supplemental insurances; COBRA, FMLA, USERRA, and COVID-19 legislation; and the retirement plan.
• Serve as custodian of personnel files in accordance with established policies and procedures to include all organizational, state, and federally required forms.
• Ensure completion, documentation and tracking of all compliance training.
• Serve as internal consultant for department managers on policy interpretation and application.
Organizational Culture
• Foster a positive and inclusive work environment that promotes collaboration, respect, and open communication.
• Develop and implement strategies to enhance team cohesion and morale.
• Collaborate with other leaders and Department Heads to align culture with the organization’s mission, values, and goals.
• Oversee and support the work of the Work Life and Culture Committee (WLCC) - an internal cross-departmental ERG) to further Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Access (IDEA) efforts and alliances.
• Promote staff engagement and participation in organization wide activities and trainings.
Talent Management
• Responsible for improving key lifecycle processes for recruiting, hiring, onboarding, employee relations, and off-boarding.
• Implement inclusive recruitment strategies that utilize nontraditional sources and ensure diverse applicant pools are presented.
• Create training opportunities for hiring managers to ensure they have the technical skills to conduct unbiased interviews and record appropriate documentation.
• Design and execute a comprehensive orientation and onboarding program that introduces new employees to the mission, values, key policies, and protocols, helping them to feel a sense of belonging and aiding in increased rates of employee satisfaction and retention.
• Manage job descriptions in partnership with directors and managers to ensure they are up-to-date, effective, and consistent for all positions.
• Recommend, implement, and monitor a comprehensive performance evaluation process.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree in human resources, labor relations, organizational behavior, or related field required.
• Four years of professional human resources administration, including two years in employee relations preferred OR its equivalent through training, education, and other experience.
• Current human resources and/or compensation credentials or certification, such as PHF, SPHR, CP, CCP, SCP or similar, preferred.
• Read, analyze, interpret, and apply sections of applicable laws, guidelines, regulations, ordinances, and policies. Effectively present information and respond to questions.
• Excellent analytical, problem solving and organizational skills.
• Thorough understanding of dispute resolution with an ability to remain tactful, calm, and persuasive in controversial and/or confrontational situations.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Accuracy and rigorous attention to detail
• Compliance with MMDG COVID-19 Safety Plan and Vaccination Policy
• Proficient in HRIS software
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: General mobility in office areas. Ability to operate data processing and other office equipment. Prolonged periods sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer.
SCHEDULE: This is a full-time exempt position; Monday - Friday, flexible schedule, on-site most days
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
• Annual Salary: $87,500 - $100,000
