Volunteer Dance Camp Counselor

Dance Project of Washington Heights is a vibrant and dynamic non-profit organization dedicated to promoting dance education and appreciation within our community. We believe in the transformative power of dance to inspire creativity, foster self-confidence, and build meaningful connections. Our Spring Camp provides a unique opportunity for children to immerse themselves in various dance styles while having fun and making lasting memories.

Job Description: As a Volunteer Camp Counselor at Dance Project of Washington Heights, you will play a vital role in ensuring that our summer camp participants have a safe, enjoyable, and enriching experience. You will work closely with camp staff and assist in facilitating various dance activities, games, and dance classes. This position offers a fantastic opportunity for individuals passionate about dance and eager to make a positive impact in the lives of young artists. The camp runs from April 22nd - 26th from 8:30 am - 5 pm. Volunteers are welcome to participate as many days and hours as they can commit to, but must attend a mandatory training on Sunday, April 21st.

Responsibilities:

*Assist camp instructors in leading dance classes and workshops.
*Supervise camp participants during dance activities, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
*Engage campers in creative and interactive dance-related games and exercises.
*Serve as a positive role model for campers, promoting teamwork, respect, and inclusivity.
*Assist with setting up and cleaning up dance spaces and equipment.
*Collaborate with fellow counselors and camp staff to create a fun and memorable camp experience.
*Attend orientation sessions and training workshops prior to the start of the camp.
*Follow all camp policies and procedures, including emergency protocols and behavior management guidelines.
*Communicate effectively with campers, parents, and staff members, addressing any concerns or issues promptly and professionally.

Qualifications:

*Passion for dance and working with children.
*Previous experience in dance instruction, childcare, or camp counseling preferred but not required.
*Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
*Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
*Enthusiasm, creativity, and a positive attitude.
*Reliability and punctuality.
Must be at least 17 years old.
Completion of background check and/or training requirements as mandated by the organization.
