Site-Specific Collaborative Opportunity
THE FOURTEEN PORCHES PROJECT
Calling dancers to participate in The Indeterminacy Festival's finale large-scale, site-specific performance hosted on Governors Island this June 7th 2024. This year's festival is created in partnership with the New York Arts Program.
Selected individuals will receive a full scholarship to participate in a five-day creative lab (June 2-6) with choreographer Melanie Aceto leading into finale performances on the island. Under Aceto’s direction, dancers will co-create a new work for IF’s “14 Porches Project” in collaboration with a chamber orchestra and 60-person choir. To apply, please go here.
Directed by Stanzi Vaubel, the 14 Porches Project, premiers a new composition for dance, choir, and string orchestra to take place on the porches and central quad of the historic Nolan Park on Governors Island. Breaking the rules of a traditional orchestral arrangement, the score situates musicians on fourteen separate porches that wrap around the park where a site-specific dance will take place. Returning to the intention of a porch as a communal meeting ground visited by neighbors, this project re-connects to the social dimension of the creative process. Vaubel co-composes this singular hour-long work with Philippe Treuille with choreography by Melanie Aceto and her indeterminacy choreo lab ensemble.

About the Festival
The Indeterminacy Festival is a laboratory for creative research. Founded in 2016 by performer and media artist Stanzi Vaubel in the grain silos of Western New York, IF fosters research in the arts by providing young, emerging, and established artists with site-specific environments for exploration and creation in music, dance, visual, and performing arts.
The festival collaborates with established artists who integrate different genres and art forms into their creative practice and value the opportunity to lead a team of emerging artists in the creation of a new work. The Indeterminacy Festival is about working and learning together in an intergenerational setting in the pursuit of creating new and exciting work for live audiences.
