THE WATER STUDY PROJECT
Company: Dances We Dance/Performing Ensemble
Location: New York, NY
Compensation: opportunity to perform
The 2024 Water Study Project is a 10-week (3 hours once a week) workshop culminating in 4 performances at the Graham Studio Theater this November.
In this workshop, you will learn 2 repertory pieces: Isadora Duncan and Doris Humphrey, both choreographed before the 1930s. It's a unique and rare opportunity not only to learn these pieces, but to seeing and performing them on the same program.
While the Duncan version is more known and widely performed, the Humphrey version is copyrighted and rarely done; the uniqueness of this opportunity is that you will learn it from one of the few living bodies that has the direct knowledge and experience of Humphrey's work, Gail Corbin. Ms. Corbin has been the pupil of one of Doris's original members of the Humphrey/Weidman company, Ernestine Stodelle. Both of these dances are not learned off videos or Laban notation, but from dancers who performed and learned them from past generation of dancers who hold the legacy of the original choreographers.
We are looking up to 16 dancers and we are accepting the first 20 applicants to join the first session in September, when the final selection will be made. The sooner you sign up the better chance you have. A $17 non-refundable deposit fee is required.
You can find all the details in this link, including the sign-up form.
