Dance Teaching Artist AUDITION - Tuesday October 1st

 

Amanda Selwyn Dance Theatre/Notes in Motion is seeking experienced Dance Teaching Artists for immediate placement in ongoing dance education programs during the school day and after-school in NYC Public Schools. Teaching Artist Audition will take place at our company studio at 412 Broadway, 2nd Fl, New York, NY 10013 on Tuesday, October 1st from 2:30-4:30 p.m.

Teaching artists lead in-school or after-school dance programs in public schools throughout the five boroughs of NYC. Rates start at $45/hr and include paid time for curriculum and professional development. Since 2000, Notes in Motion has worked with over 220,000 students across the 5 boroughs. Our programs occur within the school day (between 8am-3pm) or after school (3pm-6pm). 

Qualified candidates should have:

- At least 1-5 days per week available between 8am-3pm (in-school programs) and/or 2:30pm-6pm (after-school programs) for immediate placement.

- Experience in a variety of dance forms such as Latin, African Diasporic styles, STEP, Hip Hop, Indian, Bollywood, Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Ballroom, and/or Creative Dance training.

- Professional dance background and experience teaching in NYC public schools (or similar settings) with elementary, middle, and/or high school populations.

- Choreographic experience in a variety of settings for youth.

- Spanish, Mandarin, and Arabic speakers a plus

To reserve an audiiton slot, submit a detailed TEACHING RESUME (no performance resumes please), a SAMPLE LESSON PLAN in any style (45-60 minutes) and indicate what age/grade it is targeted for, and a COVER LETTER as a separate attachment highlighting your dance training and teaching experience. Once Confirmed - What to Prepare for the Audition?
In preparation for the audition, please prepare approx. 10-12 min of content to teach a modified class to the group based on the bulleted class structure below. You will teach other auditioners in the room. We are looking for TA’s to teach substantive technical skills and movement vocabulary while nurturing creative expression. We’d like to see how you scaffold both skill building and creative instruction into your teaching. At the top of your class, please state the age group and dance style the class is intended for.

- Opening ritual (1min)
- Warm-up highlighting vocab & technical skills (3 min)
- Game or creative improv activity (3 min)
- Choreography (3-5 min)
