OVERVIEW

Kinesis Project, directed by Melissa Riker, is seeking dancers interested in co-creating crafted, physical dance works to be performed outside for all terrains.  Agreements will begin with a two month flex period, and then shift to a 12-month agreement as core ensemble.

The current work-in-process is a durational performance coordinated with a community experience.

Dancers will be learning from video as well as creating their own vocabulary with the choreographer.

Artists who are hired as core members must be able to put priority on rehearsal times - currently two, 3hr rehearsals per week on Tues and Thurs afternoons with one to two Sundays a month. A full schedule will be shared prior to call-backs.

Audition Date: Nov 16, 10:30-12:30pm

Callback Date: Nov 19, 1:30-3:00pm

ABOUT THE COMPANY

As a large-scale, outdoor, public-space dance company, Kinesis Project develops works in public settings over time. A single work could be performed and updated multiple times before it premieres. In the winter months, KP works in-studio with a model called Revealing Dances, an open rehearsal model in which Riker and collaborators work with audience members present.

Kinesis Project is a NYC based dance company with a bi-coastal cast. The full company includes dancers in NYC and Seattle, with an effort via creative process and performance opportunities to create connections between the coasts.

ABOUT YOU

Interest will be weighted toward dancers who are invested in work that creatively uses space, integrates non-dancers, are flexible with how movement can be performed and shared and are interested in work that spans multiple hours.

Important traits of Kinesis Project artists are: comfort in a layered, long-term creative process, strong improvisors, clear communication, generosity within the ensemble during studio time, and generosity with the public in performance. Past (and present) Kinesis Project dancers have backgrounds in martial arts, circus, street styles, theatre, improv, cultural movement traditions, ballet and contemporary forms.
