Call for HIP HOP dance films

Salem State University Hip Hop Dance Film Festival. A dancer stands with her arms outstretched in front of a blue background. Olivia Moon

The Salem State University Music and Dance Department, in collaboration with the Salem State University Center for Creative and Performing Arts, invites submissions of short HIP HOP dance films for screening at its inaugural Intergenerational Hip Hop Symposium.

Selected films will be screened at the Sophia Gordon Center for the Performing Arts in Salem, Massachusetts on January 31, 2025.

This festival aims to honor and acknowledge street dance as a higher art form within the academic realm, celebrating the participants, legends, and pioneers who have shaped the culture. We are seeking films that highlight the richness and diversity of hip hop and street dance styles. Submissions can feature (but are not limited to) Memphis Jookin, LA's Krump Dance, New York's Flexing & Bruk Up, West Coast Popping, and Afro-Latin House - all aforementioned and various street dance entries are highly encouraged to submit.

Submission deadline is November 30. Please visit https://filmfreeway.com/SalemStateUniversityDanceFilmFestival for more information and to submit a film.
