2019 Touring Season Performance

Young Dancemakers Company Photo by Sam Polcer

Young Dancemakers Company, a unique dance ensemble of teens drawn from NYC’s public high schools, dedicated to creating original choreography and performing it in free touring concerts city-wide, for audiences of up to 2000 young people and adults, is proud to present its 24th annual touring season. The company will present eight performances held across the city from July 24 through August 3, consisting of eleven short original dances, based on meaningful personal and social themes, created by the emerging choreographers, under the guidance of YDC’s Director Alice Teirstein, Co-Director Jessica Gaynor, Music Director William Catanzaro and Costume Designer Wendy Phillips Kahn.

Also included in the concert is an excerpt from the repertory of Dance Heginbotham, taught by company members Kristen Foote and Courtney Lopes, with additional workshops taught by Bridgman|Packer Dance, Jonathan Gonzalez, and Peter Yuen.

Eleven professional composers will work one-on-one with our student choreographers to create original work.

All performances end with a lively "Dance With Us," in which audience members are invited onto the stage to improvise with the dancers, accompanied by percussionist William Catanzaro.

The young dancemakers of the 2019 season are Haitham Ahmed, Tiana Ayala, Shaxlo Bakhritdinova, Janee Bell, Arianna F. Black, Mya Howe, Tevani Jospeph, Juan Marin, Zarina Medwinter, Alaya Moore, Sebastien Paillant, Mireya Rojas, Hazel Ron, Aaniyah Scipio, and David Simmons.

All performances are free and open to the public but RSVP is required.
