BodyStories: Teresa Fellion Dance Internships in Marketing/Media, Booking, Development, and Education

BodyStories: Teresa Fellion Dance, an internationally-acclaimed contemporary dance company, seeks marketing/media, booking, development, and education interns for Summer 2015. Interns must be motivated to assist with administrative tasks and learn about the operations of a non-profit performing arts organization. Interns will primarily focus on marketing, booking, development, and education, but will also assist with preparations for the company’s fall/winter performances and residencies, production of fundraising events, and company operations.

Applicants should have knowledge of and interest in the arts. They should be pro-active, responsible, reliable, organized, detail-oriented, able to multi-task, and able to work independently. Applicants should possess strong communication, writing, computer, and social media skills. Tasks will include such things as website updates, presenter/theater communications, educational planning, media editing, targeted development-research, assistance with grant applications, etc. Photography, video, web/graphic design, and database management skills are a plus. Previous experience in arts administration is desirable, but not required. Undergraduate students, graduate students and young arts professionals are encouraged to apply.

Internships are unpaid. Positions are approximately 10-12 hours per week. Interns are invited to attend company class offered 1-2 times per week and to visit company rehearsal when desired. College credit can be arranged if applicable.

 

BodyStories: Teresa Fellion Dance has shown work at Baryshnikov Arts Center, Jazz at Lincoln Center, 92nd Street Y, Jacob’s Pillow, The Public Theater, University of Florida Dance Department, Ailey Citigroup Theater, Bryant Park SummerStage, ENTPE University (Lyon, France), Booking Dance Festival (Edinburgh, Scotland), Dixon Place, DNA, NYU, BAAD!, University of Maine, ICA Boston, and with the rock band Phish, among others. They have enjoyed inventive collaborations with composers and lighting, video, set & costume designers, such as Trey Anastasio, Killick!, Ryan Edwards, Tim Cryan, Ljupka Arsovska, Ryan Lott, John Yannelli, Burke Brown, Carver Audain, and Elena Comendador. The company has taught, dance and theater internationally in colleges, universities, community & senior centers, public schools, private studios, and conservatories.

 

Teresa Fellion formed BodyStories: Teresa Fellion Dance in late 2011 after working as an independent choreographer since 2004. Fellion’s work has been positively reviewed by NPR, Huffington Post, The Scotsman, NYTheatre.com, The Skinny Magazine, World Dance Reviews, Edinburgh Festivals Magazine, Edinburgh Spotlight, Southampton Press, and Earth Press. Teresa received a Window Award NEA Grant for a chashama residency, Choreographic Fellowship from SummerStages Dance Festival, American Dance Guild Fellowship for Jacob’s Pillow’s Choreographers’ Lab, Brooklyn Arts Council Community Arts Fund Grant, and space grants at MANA Arts/Armitage Gone! Dance, Mount Tremper Arts, Field FAR Space, and at Triskelion Arts and Mark Morris Dance Center through the Mellon Foundation. Teresa was named the Artistic Liaison between Cameroon & U.S. by president Paul Biya, while performing with National Ballet du Cameroun and National Soccer Cup Finals. She performed works by Lucinda Childs, Deganit Shemy, Liz Lerman, Twyla Tharp, Sarah Skaggs, Kimberly Young, and Martha Bowers. Teresa has taught at Ailey School, SLC, NYU, Jacob’s Pillow, DreamYard, UF, UME, Pace University. She completed a Dance MFA from Sarah Lawrence under Bessie Schonberg Scholarship, Certificate from Ailey School under scholarship, and BA in French & English Literature from NYU as merit scholar.
