On May 10, 2024, at 6 p.m., join Chevalier Ballet for Wine, Cheese, and Open Rehearsal Night. Get a sneak peek of Giselle Act II, and Sara Knight’s original, New York Stories. Guests will have a chance to ask the dancers and artistic director questions and will get a behind-the-scenes look at the company’s rehearsal process. Rehearsal will be in preparation for the company's performance on May 18th at 7 p.m.

Giselle, a romantic ballet first seen in 1841, was choreographed by Jean Coralli and Jules Perrot and revised by Marius Petipa, with music by Adolphe Adam. Chevalier Ballet Artistic Director, Sara Knight, staged Act II on the company dancers.

Sara Knight's original work, New York Stories, was inspired by the post-WWII photos John Baer took in NYC and is in collaboration with Baer's son Andrew, who found and preserved the photos in 2021. John Baer, who served in the 644th Tank Destroyer Battalion, acquired a Leica camera from a captured German soldier. His first photographs were of his fellow soldiers, weary from war. In 1951, Baer and his wife returned to NYC, where he began taking photos that captured the lives of ordinary people while walking the streets. The photos captured an intimate glimpse into people's lives including workers paving the streets of 5th Avenue, couples sitting in parks, people shopping or going to work, and more.

Wine, Cheese, and Open Rehearsal Night will take place at 380 Broadway, 5th Floor, New York, NY 10013.

The May 18th performance will take place at Manhattan Movement and Arts Center, 248 West 60th Street New York, NY 10023.
