Free Open Session

Free Open Session

FOLLOWING THE "NEW DANCE GROUP" FORMAT, WE'LL OFFER A THREE HOUR SESSION INCLUDING:
1 HOUR TECHNIQUE
1 HOUR IMPROV
1 HOUR CHOREOGRAPHIC PROCESS*

Cameron McKinney will be teaching Loft Technique:
This class will combine the grace of modern with the speed and fluidity and hip-hop and house dance. Phrases will involve every part of the body—whether in the air or on the ground. The class focuses on how to move from high to low to high again, and how to rediscover “the down”—corporally through footwork and spatially through floorwork. By shifting the focus from internal dialogue to creating movement that, in its own physicality, can tell a story by itself, the class will delve deeper into the cathartic ability of sweat and exhaustion, while offering a new and active method of expression.

Cameron McKinney is a dancer, choreographer, teacher, and author from Memphis, TN. He is the Artistic Director of Kizuna c?? Dance, a dance company that depicts Japanese culture through the lens of a hip-hop aesthetic.

* The choreography section is for those with an interest in a longer commitment for a choreographic process. We will show a work in progress at Movement Research Open Performances on Tuesday February 10 2015. If you're interested in being a part of this project, please write an email to dancetothepeople@gmail.com explaining your focus in dance and how your goals align with DTTP's mission, a copy of your resumé, as well as any other useful information (video links, pictures or websites), no later than January 14 2015.
