HARLEM NIGHT SONG: NATIONAL DANCE INSTITUTE’S 2017 EVENT OF THE YEAR

National Dance Institute Eduardo Patino

National Dance Institute (NDI) is gearing up for their 2017 Event of the Year at NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts. This year’s culminating performance, Harlem Night Song, directed by Bianca Johnson, will bring together 200 talented dancers from New York City public schools in a spectacular celebration of Harlem’s rich music and cultural history. Through dance and live music, NDI will bring to life the work of Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington, Florence Mills, Fats Waller, Hector LaVoe, Jacob Lawrence, among others. Children will stomp at the Savoy, salute the Harlem Hellfighters, cheer for Joe Louis, and shuffle along at the Hoofers Club. Joining the NDI musicians in the orchestra this year will be students and faculty from the Jazz at Lincoln Center Youth Programs. The event will be performed for audiences 4,600 strong, including 1,600 public school children from NDI’s In-School Program who will attend free of charge.
