I Hear America Singing, I See America Dancing
Company: Dance Visions NY
Venue: Long Beach Public Library
Location: Long Beach, NY
On this 200th birthday anniversary year of iconic American poet Walt Whitman (May 31, 1819), Dance Visions NY presents a celebratory program of poetry and dance. American dance revolutionary Isadora Duncan (1878-1927), was greatly influenced by Whitman, calling him her spiritual teacher. We pay tribute to these two kindred spirits. Actress, Tzena, will deliver poems by Whitman, which will are by authentic Duncan dances performed by dancers Louisa Cathcart, Beth Jucovy and Hope Kroog, of Dance Visions NY. Duncan dance pianist Mark Fiedler accompanies many of these works, to the music of Chopin, Brahms, Gluck and soprano Farah Chandu will also contribute to the program. One of the works, “Labor/Famine”, to music of Michael Sheyne, has been newly reconstructed in dance and music specifically for this program. This program was conceived and developed by Beth Jucovy and the late Shirley Romaine. Free program and open to the public. No reservations.
