LAB // SESSION #2: Exploration in Contemporary Forms with Ashley Robicheaux
LAB #2: EXPLORATION IN CONTEMPORARY FORMS
WITH ASHLEY ROBICHEAUX
Tuesday, August 18, 3pm to 5pm
For Intermediate / Advanced Level Dance Artists
Cultivation, Specificity, Evolution - LAB #2 consists of a warmup that studies both internal and external ideas within the body, plus phrasework that will build on specificity and dynamic. Cultivating movement that is woken up by the senses, improvisation games and tasks expand the possibilities for movement, creating awareness in and around the individual. Repetition of material with additional compositional layers will lead to obstruction of that specificity. Partnering with another individual will also add another challenge - how we can interlace the individual phrase into partnered moments, and vice versa, to create one seamless dance?
The CURRENT SESSIONS is thrilled to partner with International Theater Arts Institute for our upcoming workshop series, LAB // SESSIONS, from August 17 to 20, featuring select artists from the Volume V, Issue II. performances. LAB // SESSIONS, a workshop series hosted by the CURRENT SESSIONS, allows professional dancers and non-dancers alike to learn about the creative process and individual style of select choreographers being presented at the SESSIONS. Focused on movement research, creative dialogue and experimentation with a sense of play, rather than a technique class, LAB is a platform to connect our choreographers with the NYC dance/performance community, and establishes an educational component to the CURRENT SESSIONS.
All classes are on a sliding scale of $5-10 (cash only) and will take place at IATI Studios, 64 E 4th Street, 2nd Floor, in the East Village, NYC. Make sure to RSVP ahead of time at the designated links below, as these creative workshops are meant to be kept intimate.
