Come and enjoy a dance class which incorporates sound anatomical principles, live music, and many possibilities for joy in the moment. This Merce Cunningham Technique ® class will feed your curiosity about physical possibilities in space and time. Cunningham created over 200 dances and stands as an icon in the collaborative worlds of dance, art and music. I performed in his company from 1997-2009.
Holley Farmer's performances with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company (1997-2009) include multiple seasons at Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Paris Opera, Théâtre de la Ville, the Barbican, and venues in 23 countries. She is the recipient of a New York Dance and Performance Bessie Award for sustained achievement. In 2010 she danced on Broadway originating the principal role of Babe in Twyla Tharp’s Come Fly Away, for which she received an Astaire Award Nomination. Recently, her solo work has appeared on Anna Halprin's dance deck on the occasion of Anna's 95th birthday, at New York Live Arts, the Museum of Arts and Design, LaMama, the Joyce Theater., Jacob's Pillow, and in the San Francisco Bay area, at Z Space Below, Stanford University, and the Temescal Arts Center. She became a faculty member at the Merce Cunningham Dance Studio on Bethune Street in 2007. She holds a BFA from Cornish College of the Arts and an MFA in dance from the University of Washington (Timeless Award Recipient). She has just finished her third year teaching the MFA Thesis in Choreography course at Mills College, along with setting Merce's choreography on the Repertory Dance Company there. She has been featured in Dance Magazine, Dance Teacher Magazine, Time Out NY, Vanity Fair, LA Times, among others. She now teaches in NYC at City Center and Brooklyn Studios for Dance.
