Mignolo ArtWeek

Mignolo ArtWeek schedule graphic Mark Harris

Join us October 5-13, 2024 for a weeklong journey through artistic mediums to celebrate our half-decade anniversary!

From original dance performances and theater shows to affordable art sales and an interdisciplinary open mic, there are bound to be events that will entice you to visit the home of our energetic five-year old Metuchen-based arts group at 272 Lake Avenue, Metuchen, NJ during the festival.

mignolo arts center kicks of mignolo artweek with the budget-friendly Shallow Pocket Art Show on Saturday, October 5 at 6PM. All submitted art must be priced at $100 and under and submissions are open through September 1, 2024. This event is free and open to the public.

Up next is International Cultural Da(nce)y on Sunday, October 6 from 3-5PM. Our only event at the Metuchen Plaza will bring together local choreographers with expertise in historical and cultural dance practices, as well as a unique collaborative performance integrating tap, Latin ballroom, classical Indian dance, and Yiddish folk dance. This event is free and open to the public, and is sponsored by The Metuchen Arts Council.

Then join us for Bollywood Night, another free event at 7PM on Monday, October 7. Whether you're a seasoned dancer or have two left feet, this event promises a night of laughter, music, and cultural immersion through Indian dance.

In the following days, we will host an Interdisciplinary Open Mic Night (pre-registration required; free admission), Ferrell Studios: One Act Festival (pay what you can tickets), and mignolo international screendance festival (submissions open through September 15, 2024; pay what you can tickets). We’ll close out the work week with To Be Danced, a co-production with ReFrame Dance Theatre, which features local dancers and choreographers performing their original works. These dance performances will take place at 8PM on both Friday and Saturday, October 11 and 12 respectively.

One of our most exciting events is Pinky Thinker Press LIVE!, which will run from 12-4PM on Saturday, October 11. Pinky Thinker Press is an interdisciplinary arts publication founded in 2020 under the umbrella of mignolo, and we are excited to build off the success of our first in-person PTP event last year with our second annual gathering. Artists whose work was published in our previous 12 issues are invited to share what they’ve been working on and meet other contributors and attendees. The event is free and there will be art for sale, as well as print copies of the magazine and other merchandise.

We’ll close out artweek with our Silent Movie Night Gala, our formal fundraiser for the year, which will take place at 6PM on Sunday, October 13. Tickets are a $50 minimum donation per person, and we will offer food and drinks, a silent auction, an original silent dance film screening accompanied by old Hollywood jazz music, and a friendly best dressed competition.
