ARTISTIC INTERPRETATIONS OF IMMIGRATION AND DIVERSITY TAKE CENTER STAGE AT THE QUEENS COLLEGE FALL FACULTY DANCE CONCERT

Faculty-Choreographed, Student-Performed Presentations Range from Modern to Contemporary and African Dance, November 30–December 3

This year’s Fall Faculty Dance Concert at Queens College centers on Migrations—a theme that reflects the timely topic of barriers to U.S. immigration and the extraordinarily diverse populations of both the college and the borough. With a student body that is nearly 40% foreign-born, Queens College is located in the borough of Queens, considered the nation’s most ethnically diverse county and often called “The World’s Borough.”

Migrations features world premiere works by the internationally renowned faculty of the Queens College dance program, performed by students in the Department of Drama, Theatre, and Dance. This year’s program showcases the work of faculty choreographers Guanglei Hui, Richard Move, Carolyn Webb and Edisa Weeks. “Working with bodies in motion, these four diverse premieres, performed by our extraordinarily talented dancers, explore themes of immigration and migration, displacement and exile, while addressing a universal question: ‘Where is home?’” says concert director Richard Move.

Presented by the Kupferberg Center for the Arts, performances of Migrations will take place at the Goldstein Theatre on Thursday, November 30 and Friday, December 1 at 7 pm; Saturday, December 2 at 8 pm; and Sunday, December 3 at 3 pm.
