Inside of improvised scores and learned movement sequences, we will cultivate and interrogate strategies for dancing. We will observe how we engage with material, and what we notice about our engagement will also become material. We will consider functionality and expressivity. We will dance together and for one another.
Stuart Singer is a Brooklyn-based performer and teacher. He is currently working inside projects of Beth Gill and John Jasperse, and has also worked with Joanna Kotze, Gwen Welliver, Pam Tanowitz, Wally Cardona, Lucinda Childs, Robert Wilson, Andrew Ondrejcak, Lindsay Clark, Doug Varone, Yanira Castro, Jack Ferver, Christopher Williams, Netta Yerushalmy, John Scott, and the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company (2004-2008). He is the recipient of a 2014 New York Dance and Performance "Bessie" Award for Outstanding Performer, and was named one of Dance Magazine's 2015 "25 to Watch." Stuart is currently teaches at Princeton University and for the American Dance Festival, and has also taught at Bard College, Bennington College and SUNY-Purchase College Conservatory of Dance. Originally from Western Massachusetts, he is a graduate of SUNY-Purchase College Conservatory of Dance.
