Morning Class with Vicky Shick

May 29-June 28

TUE THU 10am-12pm

MR@Danspace

$12 / $14

This morning class is about our physicality. We begin with a structured warm up with forms that I have learned, un-learned and practiced for a very long time. The goal of this preparation is to ready our bodies and minds by focusing on alignment, clarity, and ease with space for sensation and feedback from our bodies. Through rigor, a bit of improvisation, phrase work, and exploration, we deepen our understanding and intuition, hone our skills, discover pleasure and arrive at dancing together.

Vicky Shick has been involved with the New York dance community for over three decades. She was a second time Movement Research Artist in Residence in 2015. During her six years with the Trisha Brown Company, she received a "Bessie" for performance. Shick has been making dances since the late eighties many with artist, Barbara Kilpatrick and sound designer, Elise Kerman. In 2003 they were honored with a “Bessie” for their collaborations. She has also worked and performed with many other choreographers, including Yoshiko Chuma, Meg Harper, Jon Kinzel, Juliette Mapp, Marilyn Maywald, Jodi Melnick, Neil Greenberg, Jimena Paz, Stephen Petronio, Wendy Perron, Susan Rethorst, and Sara Rudner. Shick has taught, shown work, created student dances and restaged Brown’s dances in festivals and at universities, including in her hometown, Budapest. She is a 2006 grant recipient from the Foundation for Contemporary Arts and a 2008-2009 Guggenheim Foundation Fellow.
