PARADE

KDH Dancers in Hamrick's "The Four (3) Seasons Lynn Lane

Kathy Dunn Hamrick Dance Company, one of Austin’s longest-standing modern dance companies and recipient of multiple awards from the Austin Critics Table, premieres “Parade,” an evening-length dance at KC Grey Home, a warehouse space in South Austin. Recognized for masterful choreography, athletic dancing, and meaningful moments, the company opens its 18th season with a dance about parades.

In “Parade,” Hamrick blends images of the innocent and joyful homecoming parades of her youth with those of ominous, show-of-force military parades, subtly demonstrating the fine line between peace and conflict.

Lighting and Set Designer Stephen Pruitt has transformed KC Grey Home, a warehouse space in South Austin, to accommodate Hamrick’s choreographic structure. Having layered the dancers in a long, narrow space with seating at one end, audience members will feel the power of the dancers moving straight toward them. The depth of field has also influenced the structure of the dance, giving the choreography a motion-filled and highly orchestrated quality.

Percussionist Drew Silverman has composed an original score for “Parade” which will be performed live during each show.
