Inspired by the camp of Hollywood film noir and the closeted gay experience, Rope is a work for four dancers that creates a correlation between homosexual innuendo and villainy. Sourcing material from Alfred Hitchcock's 1948 film of the same name, as well as the films Funny Games (2007), Cruising (1980), several superhero and video grame franchises, and- you guessed it- Harry Potter, Rope uses a world of heightened reality to explore the fine line closeted gay characters walk onscreen- somewhere between conniving eccentric and court jester. Humor is inevitable and camp-ness abounds.. When we take the moments out of context and put them into reality, it's not so funny- but it is dangerous. Originally commisioned as a developmental production through CRAWL at Gowanus Loft, Brendan Drake Choreography's performance of Rope at HERE is supported, in part, by a 2015 CUNY Dance Initiative Residency at Baruch College. This production is a part of SubletSeries@HERE: Co-op, HERE's curated rental program, which provides artists with subsidized space and equipment, as well as technical support.

One arm is raised above the head and the other extended to the back parallel to the extended leg. The school director is opposite the dancer and wears a red DTH logo t-shirt and black pants and ballet slippers. She holds the hand of the arm raised above the dancer’s head with one arm and her back arm is extended and she is smiling at the student.
