BREAKTIME is a site-fluid reservoir for bad ideas, generated and performed by Holly Sass and Jonathan Matthews. Classmates at NYU, they were often cast together in a diverse array of work until joining forces in 2017 for Tisch Dance’s Alumni Choreographic Workshop under the mentorship of Gus Solomons, Jr. They perform anywhere that will have them, enjoy playing with folks who don’t mind jumping into the unknown with them, and rehearse in Peekskill, NY.

Andrea Ward is a contemporary choreographer and musician who teaches internationally. This summer she’s teaching in Italy at the Mediterraneo Dance Festival. Recently she finished a commission with the Columbia Ballet Collaborative at Columbia University / Barnard College. Andrea has performed her work as a featured artist in TEDx at the Phillips Center, as a guest speaker at the Digital Worlds Institute, and as a resident choreographer at the Harn Museum / Center for World Arts in Florida. Her underwater dance films have screened in New York, Paris, London, and Sweden. Music plays a central role in her work, and she oftentimes composes her own music for choreography.

 

Canadian dance artist, Maddie Hanson is a graduate of The Juilliard School, accepted at the age of 16. Choreographically, her work has been presented at Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center (Historical Performance/Juilliard415), Baryshnikov Arts Center (Merce Cunningham Centennial), DUMBO Dance Festival, APAP 2018 Conference in New York City, and San Francisco Conservatory of Dance’s Summer Choreographic Residency 2017. She choreographed for the Composers and Choreographers Concert and 2019 Senior Production at The Juilliard School, and was commissioned for MOVE(NYC)’s 2019 Young Professionals program, selected for Joffrey Ballet School’s 2019-2020 Emerging Choreographer Series, and is a recipient of the 2019 Dance Ontario Creative Partnership. Most recently she was selected to headline Triskelion Arts’ Split Bill Series in March 2020 and was awarded a CreativAction Open Space residency at The National Ballet of Canada.

 

Jendaya Dash is a freelance dancer, teaching artist, and choreographer based in Brooklyn, NY. She has worked professionally as a modern/contemporary dancer in the concert dance realm, as well as the commercial dance arena for the past 6 years. While working as a freelance artist Jendaya has also been a company member with Rod Rodgers Dance Company for the past 6 years under the artistic direction of Kim Grier-Martinez, and has been a soloist with the company for the past 4 years. Jendaya’s primary interest as an independent artist and choreographer lay in projects that highlight, and give voice to marginalized peoples, especially those who are considered children of the African diaspora. In December of 2017 she put on her first stage production, “Dimensions Within” which consisted of various dance solos and poetry to tell the stories of 3 different woman of color.
